A residential garage door isn’t something many of us notice, or think to notice. It serves it’s purpose, but usually goes without recognition unless it’s an eyesore or is particularly interesting looking. You’d never want your home to be the eyesore of the neighborhood, and there are a lot of simple upgrades you can do to your garage door to increase your curb appeal and make your home the talk of the neighborhood.
Paint
One of the easiest, and least expensive, updates you can do to your garage door is with paint. Whether it’s just updating the dingy, old paint you already have, or picking an eye-popping color to make your home really stand out on the block, painting is an easy project with great benefits. When selecting your paint, make sure you use a paint that’s specifically for exterior painting jobs. In addition, it’s important to make sure that your paint does not have a LRV of less than 35, as this could make your warranty void.
Contemporary Materials
One way to make your garage door really stand out and give your home a chic and sophisticated look, it to chose a contemporary material to replace the garage door you already have. One great option is an all-glass garage door. This not only looks incredible at the end of your driveway, but it also provides great natural light into your garage. So if you spend a lot of time in your garage, or perhaps you have a workspace or studio in your garage, you’ll have the benefit of natural light during the day.
If a glass garage door seems a little too bold for you, a wood garage door would be a great alternative. Since most garage doors are simply made of steel, this garage door will stand out in your neighborhood, and can provide a rustic look to your home, if that’s what you’re going for. It can elevate your front yard and make your home look more elegant.
Maintenance
One of the most important things, no matter what route you chose for your garage door, is that you maintain the appearance of your door. If you let it go a long time without cleaning, it will be harder to clean and will reveal wear and tear much more quickly. Just like with any aspect of your home, interior or exterior, you have to maintain it for it to keep its quality.
