In part one of this two-part blog series, we went over some of your common options when it comes to the design and practical uses of garage door trim. Garage door trim, or the decorative and protective edging that spans the exterior edges of your garage door, can be important for both aesthetics and functional uses with your garage – and you have several options for their color, style and other setup factors.
At Crawford Door Sales, we’re proud to offer an extensive range of commercial and residential garage doors for clients around Salt Lake City, Sandy, Murry and nearby areas of Utah, including garage door opener services, garage door repairs and more. Today’s part two of our series will look at some other ways you can approach garage door trim with both aesthetics and functionality in mind.
Half Trim
In many cases, garage door trim doesn’t necessarily need to surround the entire perimeter of the garage door. Instead, you may choose to go with a half trim setup, where the trim is only placed on the bottom half of the door – generally because there are certain features or obstructions that make it difficult or impossible to place full trim. Half trim can be a great option if you still want some level of decorative appeal without having to worry about potential intrusions into your garage space.
One specific benefit of a half-trim setup: If you have a walk-in entrance for your garage at one side, this half-trim design allows for more headroom and easier access through this entrance. It also offers more flexibility in terms of maintenance and repairs since not all parts of the garage door are surrounded by trim.
Thin Trim
For those going for a simple or minimalist look, thin trim or even no trim at all can be a viable option. This style involves using a thinner, more subtle trim that still provides some protection and structure to the edges of your garage door. Oftentimes, this type of trim is painted or stained to match the color of the door itself for a seamless and understated appearance.
Fillet Trim
To add both definition and curb appeal, you might consider adding a fillet to the lintel above the garage door. A fillet is a decorative piece of trim that helps to break up the space above the garage door and provide a bit of contrast to the overall design. This can be especially effective in larger garages or homes with multiple garage doors, as it helps to break up the monotony of a large expanse of overhead area.
This often creates a “carriage” style that mimics the look of old carriage house doors, which can be an attractive and unique feature for your home. Fillet trim comes in various styles and materials to suit different aesthetics.
As you can see, there are many options to consider when it comes to garage door trim. Whether you’re looking for a practical solution or want to add some personality and charm to your home, our team at Crawford Door Sales is here to help. Contact us today for all of your garage door needs in Utah!
