Your garage door is an important part of your home. Parking in your garage is much safer than parking in your driveway or on the street. It’s also a great place to store your lawn equipment and seasonal items you don’t use very often. The garage is often an underappreciated room of your house. You use it just as much as any other room, and it holds a very important purpose. It’s also a room that’s often taken for granted. You don’t realize how much you take it for granted, or appreciate it, until your garage door opener stops responding and you have to start opening the door manually anytime you want to access it. To avoid this scenario and keep using your garage with ease, here are a few signs to look out for that mean it’s time to have your garage door serviced.
It’s making a lot of noise
Your garage door should be relatively quiet. The motor will make noise, yes. But this sound should be consistent and smooth. If it starts getting considerably louder, sounds like it’s grinding, or in anyway makes a noise that makes you uncomfortable, you’ll want to call a repairman right away, before the issue gets worse and there’s additional damage to fix.
The door won’t open manually
Most people don’t often open their garages doors manually. You have a garage door opener for a reason! But in cases of emergency, you may need to get yourself in or out of the garage when you don’t have your opener handy. If your garage door won’t open manually, this is another sign that it needs to be serviced because it isn’t working properly.
The door stops responding to the remote
A lot of people think this means that they need to replace their remote. It’s always less expensive to try to fix the remote, but it’s quite possible that the issue is actually in the garage door itself. In this case, you’ll need to get your garage door serviced to figure out why it’s not responding to the remote, before it stops responding altogether and you’re stuck in a tough spot.
If your door sags or is uneven
This is a huge sign your door needs to be fixed. This situation is unsafe, as the door is clearly unstable and could break or fall at a moment’s notice. To avoid this issue, you should plan to have your garage door serviced on a somewhat regular basis, which is what we recommend no matter what. But if you do find yourself with a garage door that hasn’t been serviced in a while, definitely call your repairman immediately to get it fixed before the door sags more or breaks.
