Like with many other home services that require physical changes to any part of your property, there are a few basic ways to prepare if you’re having a new garage installation carried out in the near future. Being prepared will ensure the installation goes as smoothly as possible, plus that no unexpected surprises come up along the way.
At Crawford Door Sales, we’re happy to offer a huge range of both residential and commercial garage doors and installation services, including everything from steel and steel carriage doors to wood, glass, foam-injected and many other garage door options. What are some basic tips we regularly offer clients on preparing for upcoming garage door installation? Here are a few to keep in mind in this two-part blog series.
Move Vehicles to the Street
One of the first and simplest steps you can take is to move any vehicles that are currently parked in the driveway or garage to the street. This will give the installation crew room to work, as well as ensuring that no vehicles are accidentally damaged during the process.
In addition, if your current garage door opener is mounted on the wall near where the new door will be installed, you’ll want to remove it before the crew arrives. Most door openers can be unplugged and moved out of the way easily enough, but if you’re not sure how to do this, just let us know – we can handle it for you.
Clean Driveway and Garage Floor
Garage door installers will be working in and around your driveway, so it’s a good idea to sweep up any debris or dirt that may have accumulated there. This will help to ensure that no one tracking in dirt or debris from the street ends up making a mess of your newly installed garage door.
You should also take a few minutes to clean the floor of your garage. This isn’t strictly necessary, but it will help the crew to more easily identify any potential obstacles that may be in their way, such as boxes or other stored items.
Have Confirmation Documents Available
Just in case, it’s always a good idea to have any relevant paperwork or confirmation documents on hand. This way, if there’s ever any confusion about what type of door you ordered or when the installation is supposed to take place, you can easily refer to these documents to clear things up.
These are just a few basic tips to keep in mind in preparation for having a new garage door installed. In our next blog, we’ll continue with a few more helpful tips to make sure the process goes as smoothly as possible. Stay tuned!
