To this point in this multi-part blog series, we’ve been discussing the impact of cold weather on a garage door the contents of the garage therein. We’ve also begun going over the extensive value of garage door insulation, which helps prevent many of the expansion and contraction risks present in garage doors and related areas during the coldest winter months.
At Crawford Door Sales, we offer a number of solutions to potential winter temperature concerns, including our foam-injected garage doors that come with high-quality insulation materials. What are some of the other key reasons you should be considering a foam-injected door or another where insulation is included? Here are several to finish off our series.
Car Protection
While not everyone parks their car in the garage year-round, the winter is generally the most common time where vehicles are kept inside – especially in a place like Utah, where winter snow is common. And if you keep at least one car inside the garage, insulation plays a big role in protecting it.
There are several potential negative effects of cold and freezing temperatures in a garage. They include the thickening of engine, transmission and brake fluid, plus the wear-down of batteries – many even die entirely if they’re exposed to freezing temperatures too often. Cold temperatures also lower air pressure in tires. However, with an insulated garage door, you avoid all of these risks, keeping temperature at a more manageable range.
Door Durability
On top of all the ways insulated garage doors protect your items and vehicles inside the garage, the doors themselves also tend to be much more durable than other types. This is because they’re manufactured differently than single-layer doors, with a steel frame on both sides complete with insulation foam in between the panels.
This design format means risks like damage or dents is far lower in this door type than single-layer options. This is especially valuable for garage doors that deal with not only weather, but also kids, equipment and other factors on a daily basis.
Noise and Sound Transmission
Finally, insulation provides one additional benefit in case you weren’t already convinced: Noise limitation. Insulation dampens the vibrations of the garage as it opens and closes, which is particularly valuable for homes with bedrooms above the garage area. In addition, garage door insulation helps block out the transmission of sounds from the street or other areas, which is valuable if you live on a busy road or have loud neighbors. In fact, we have many clients who have upgraded to an insulated garage door primarily for noise reduction purposes.
