A Brief History Of The Garage Door

The history of the garage door is a long one, dating all the way back to 450 BC, when Egyptian’s would store chariots in gatehouses. However, it wouldn’t be until 1900 AD when the garage door would make its way to America when Cornell Iron Works features a product called a “float over door.” The garage door as we know it today didn’t come about until 1921, when C.G. Johnson invented the first upward-lifting garage door, and then the first automatic one just 5 years later in 1926. Today, garage doors are immensely popular and used around the world.
